About Mickey Khoury:

Hi, I’m Mickey! I spin things. A lot. I think that’s why I’m here…

Oh, you need a story…. Well, almost 9 years ago some dude showed me how to play with a fire stick and now I’m here.

Ugh, you need MOAR? Okaaaaay. In that 9 years, the first 5 were spent jumping around learning that there is, in fact, a limit to how fast you can spin in circles when spinning a staff. After getting bored of that (because I had no idea how to improve) I began messing with poi and bought myself some. Then, down at the beach one night, some new friends recognised that I wasn’t hands-down derpy with the poi’s, and decided to hurt my brain in a way I’ve never found so pleasurable. Tech. Once I realised there was a world of science in spinning and didn’t think it could get any better, I tagged along to Spinfest (2013) and I was left to pick my own jaw back up off the floor. Here I learned dragonstaff from two of my favourite geeks, and it all went crazy from there. Now you can find me either making props for people, spinning props for/with people, or yelling at people on the sideline when they do crappy tricks that I know they can do better – because I love them, of course.

Can I go now? Sweet. Cya there!

Mickey Khoury's 2015 Workshops:

Partner Dragonstaff!

Objects:

Difficulty:

Any Level

Duration:

1hr

Description:

When the dragon geeks unite and begrudgingly share one staff between two of them, there's bound to be some fun stuff to cover. Maybe also fights over said dragonstaff, who knows. In this class, a few of us will combine together to create one SUPER TEACHER with four arms and four legs and ....wait nevermind. Just come to the workshop and check out all sorts of stuff to learn by using a dragonstaff and another human being!

An Intro to Dragon Stalls and Foundations

Objects:

Difficulty:

Intermediate

Duration:

1hr

Description:

This class is designed to teach you how to stall a dragonstaff's momentum without stopping the rolling inertia of the staff. We'll cover: Snap-rewinds, in chi-roll and one handed Basic horizontal stalls, and a stalling foundation with a couple of ideas for movement Vertical stall fun (these are weird but groups create ideas so it's in there for the learnings) Pre-requisite knowledge: A basic understanding of dragonstaff is ideal, but beginners need not worry about knowing anything in order to participate.

Dragonstaff Propellers are Awesome

Objects:

Difficulty:

Intermediate

Duration:

1hr

Description:

This class is designed to take a very close look at dragonstaff propellers, because they can achieve an incredibly vast array of new movements, unlock new rolling paths, and they're really awesome. I will teach you propellers, dammit. You'll see just how many places they can fit, dammit. You'll learn how to take flight with your new propeller theory, dammit! Pre-requisite knowledge: This is an intermediate move style, and as such it would be best if you already know the basics of dragonstaff so that you're not struggling to keep up in this class.
