Started teaching Contact staff about 7 years ago in Dunedin. Since then I have developed skills with 2, 3 and 4 sticks as well as 2,3 and 4 poi. I teach annually at Circulation and Luminate Festival.
Students will learn basic formations and contact of 2 sticks in one hand which can transferred onto 3 and 4 sticks. At the end of the lesson students should have a good grip and smooth effortless motion with 2 sticks. One handed stick on stick is a great intro to multi-sticking.
Students will learn the anatomy of the throw as well as catching before trying to pass to other. At the end of the lesson students should be able to pass and throw comfortably. Throwing poi can be ridiculous fun and is a great visual + physical workout.
Recommend soft poi heads so you can continuously hit yourself and not be traumatised by the relentless assault of notorious hard poi heads. We will go over the ways we can bounce poi on our body!
